Encouragement to Mothers

December 23, 2020 by Dawn Michelle

I met a woman the other day who openly shared some of her challenges with motherhood. Motherhood is intensely challenging, beyond humbling, and at times you just want the day to be over then realizing that you’ll be back at it the next day. It never ends and there isn’t much reprive. It’s been on my heart to share some encouragement to any mother who will read this.

When my son was around 15-18 months old and we were still living in Los Angeles, a man approached me at the gas station asking for money. My son was sitting in his car seat smiling at him. I had already started pumping gas and I don’t think I had any cash on me, but I did have a bunch of bananas in the car so I offered them to him. He then asked me if I was a Christian. I had no idea where this conversation was going.

Surprisingly he started ministering to me. He told me that being a mother was the MOST important job in the world.

A tear started running down my face just as it is now as I write this. My lip quivered as I said, “But it started out so hard.” I was referring to my birth story which I shared, and the nine months of tribulations that I endured after as I shared in my personal testimony. His eyes had such light in them despite that he was walking around the gas station asking for money. He smiled and waved at my son and walked away thanking me for the bananas. I’ve never forgotten that day, and it came back to my mind after the mother was sharing her struggles with me.

So why is motherhood so hard? Because it’s the MOST important job in the world. When a mother is physically or even emotionally absent from a child’s life, it can scar a child deeply more than many other trials and tribulations in life. Mothers nurture, mold, and frame how a child sees the world, and the values the child will have.

Mothers build the foundation of how a child will become an adult in the world.

With this job being the MOST important job in the world, it doesn’t surprise me that from a worldly standpoint it is so belittled daily with one commercialized holiday of honor. Because the world belittles us, we belittle ourselves, and sometimes each other. And to add more insult, women are made to feel guilty if we stay at home to take care of our children, and we are also made to feel guilty if we work outside of the home. There seems to be no win either way from a worldly mindset.

Women are constantly bombarded with ideals of wearing the superhero’s cape of being perfectly in shape and glamorous, with just the right amount of self care, while working a job, cooking, baking, cleaning, having a magazine worthy home, caring for the family, and participating in the right social activities.

This is just lightly touching on the pressures of motherhood. So let’s get back to what is really crucial with the MOST important job in the world. Mothers mold children to become adults. Let’s think about how ideally we want to accomplish this… with unconditional love, patience, peace, discipline, courage, grace, and mercy. It is nearly impossible to really do this job if we haven’t looked at our own pain. This is where walking with God comes in.

“Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” Hebrews 13:5 KJV

The word “conversation” in scripture usually refers to not only what you say but how you live. With mothers on social media sharing glimpses of how they live online for encouragement, it’s important that we do not compare ourselves to the 1% of their life that they share, or to covet and desire any part of it. The reason why I emphasize 1% is because we don’t see how anyone speaks with their spouse at home, disciplines there children, treats the sales clerks in stores, and most importantly we don’t know their personal struggles or what’s in their hearts.

Yes we do desire our lives to improve and be our best versions, but our best is not someone else’s 1%.

Instead let’s look at who we are and ask God to deal with us individually. Let’s ask God to show us where we are distracted, hurt, and struggling, and where we have unforgiveness. We need God’s help to heal us.

Unforgiveness can be a HUGE culprit to mothers not being able to step into their role with the grace God will provide for us to do our best.

So no this article isn’t going to share 10 tips on being an awesome mom. Who we are individually and who our children are can’t be resolved in 10 superficial tips. If it were that simple this wouldn’t be the MOST important and also challenging job in the world. I will say this though.

The more that I’ve humbled myself and told God, “Lord you’ve designed me to do this job, so please show me how,” the more grace I’ve received as well as instruction from the Holy Spirit on exactly what step to take next.

“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” John 14:26 KJV

When I think of God’s grace, the words that immediately come to mind is “His supernatural favor”. I have witnessed the Holy Spirit guide me and teach me many things from how to run my household, what to do in terms of this blog and my business, and how to discipline my son when he’s been misbehaving. The Holy Spirit has also guided me when to just let things alone seeing that the issue in front of my eyes had nothing to do with what I was actually seeing, but instead what I hadn’t dealt with in my own heart, or if dealing with another something they haven’t dealt with in their own heart.

It’s not my job to fix anyone’s heart, but I do know God can. When you humble yourself before God, he literally takes your hand and walks you through both the beauty and struggles of life. Humility is very important though because God resists the proud.

As we slowly walk away from one of the most challenging years worldwide and enter into a new year, and our family leans heavily on us for everything, let’s lean on God even more. Cast every care in your heart to Him and he will guide you to do the MOST important job in the world in the best way for you and your family.

Sending all of you mothers a BIG hug, and I pray that you find the balance of both strength and gentleness in your life.
Love, Dawn Michelle

This article is so very true and motherhood is indeed a tremendous gift. Back in 2018, I had been forewarned that my job was being transferred overseas and I was being eliminated as a result. Saddened by the news, my husband took me to our favorite Vietnamese restaurant to cheer me up. At the end of dinner, our favorite waitress brought the bill and customary fortune cookie, and inside the fortune said, “you are about to embark on a journey of great honor and responsibility.” My spirits lifted and I began getting excited about what my next career opportunity would entail. Little did I know that I was pregnant at the time and that timely fortune cookie was not a coincidence by any means, but a message sent from the Heavens revealing a much greater opportunity. I still meditate on those words and often repeat them when I find myself in the more difficult moments of motherhood. While the responsibility is indeed great, I am beyond honored to be raising my son with intention and purpose and I find that the more difficult moments are opportunities for me to evaluate my own shortcomings and to grow from them. Keep up the great work Mom, you got this!

      Hi Lindsey,
I loved reading your comment! Every challenging moment truly is an opportunity to reevaluate our own short comings and pray to develop better qualities in our spirit and emotions. Whenever I see my son in his ultra dramatic mode I just look back at how I may have acted before responding. They learn more through observation than anything else. Motherhood is a huge blessing despite it’s challenges. Wishing you a very happy new year!

Dawn, God Bless you for this article. This has been one of the most insightful, transparent message I’ve received from the Lord working through His servants. As motherhood is to me an important part of ministry I pray that mothers rely on Jesus for strength and peace. I pray your life in this new year is continuously blessed!

Fenugreek seeds, also called methi seeds, have a m Fenugreek seeds, also called methi seeds, have a multitude of medicinal properties along with being a prominent spice in many cultural dishes. For starters, fenugreek seeds are packed with protein for strengthening strands, mucilage for moisturizing and soothing the scalp while detangling the hair, and most importantly nicotinic acid which may minimize hair shedding while soothing scalp issues. Fenugreek seeds are also anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal which is beneficial for soothing a dry irritated scalp as well as high in iron. 🍂

These little seeds are a win win for natural hair care and can be used in various ways. I’ve used fenugreek seeds in my beauty regimen on and off for years. Today I wanted to share four easy ways you can incorporate fenugreek in your hair regimen to promote healthy hair growth. The link is in the profile. 🍂

God is so good! We move on FRIDAY. This picture God is so good! We move on FRIDAY. This picture was taken before they removed the bricking which was VERY NOISY to say the least. We haven’t been completely able to avoid the beginning of the construction process, but I honestly think it’s a good thing. This way we can remain GRATEFUL throughout the entire process. GRATITUDE during LIFE’S IMPERFECTION develops CONTENTMENT. That is one thing I work on daily. If you missed our “We’re Moving Again” testimony it’s on the blog. 🌿🍁🍃

Friday mornings are my busiest mornings of the wee Friday mornings are my busiest mornings of the week. I make muffins for Saturday’s breakfast (either corn bread, pumpkin, or banana bread muffins) to have with fruit, a big crockpot dinner for the weekend (beans & rice bowls, lentils and sweet potato stews, or a big veggie and red potato stew) to serve with bread, tortillas, grains, and/or salad depending on the dish, and I’m usually putting orders together to go out for @iamazuha today too. All the while I’m also making other food for the day. 🍂🥧🍁

Friday’s are crazy because of the usual responsibilities, but mainly because I really want to relax a bit over the weekend. Over this past year I’ve worked really hard to create systems to make working from home and being a homemaker easier. Homemaking really is like running a small boutique bed and breakfast hotel. It takes planning ahead, having a solid system, financial planning, commitment, and a lot of love. I’ve been learning to really enjoy this process. Just like everybody else I’ve been baking more this year than ever. Very rewarding. 🍂🥧🍁

Wishing all of you a beautiful and blessed weekend!

I was initially praying to God for ways to endure what we were about to go through while somehow someway making it nice for my family during the process. But God was already orchestrating a new way for us to not even have to endure it at all. Read my testimony on Minimalist Beauty... (link in profile) 🌿🍂🍃

We could all use an IMMUNE BOOST right now. Here’s a simple juice recipe that I make for just that. I call it SPICY APPLE JUICE and my three (almost four) year old drinks it up no problem! 🍎

I simply juice 2 WHOLE medium/large APPLES (3 small apples pictured) + 3 CLOVES of GARLIC in a slow masticating juicer for one immune boosting serving. Yes I do include the core as it has many health benefits. 🍎

After having my 1st official winter back on the east coast last year, RAW GARLIC was how I made it through without getting sick at all while caring for sick family members. 🍎

Since then I juice garlic in many of my juice recipes or mince up multiple cloves as dinner toppings for chickpea pasta, beans and rice bowls, and stews. What I LOVE most of all is hearing my son say, “More Juice?” Proud Mama!!!! 🍎

I started wearing linen clothing because it’s ex I started wearing linen clothing because it’s extremely practical. Linen is one of the most environmentally friendly fabrics on the market. Linen is also considered the world’s strongest natural fabric. After tiring of purchasing new clothing every season for my heavily worn small capsule wardrobe, it just made sense to look for mid and heavy weight linen garments that could be worn year round and layered that actually lasted.
🍃

Linen clothing can last up to 2-3 decades if properly cared for. I’ve made some mistakes along the way, but have finally found a simple method for caring for my linen garments. (Link in profile.)
