One thing that I absolutely love is having a wonderful fragrance to put on especially in the summer. It is an extraordinary pick-me-up in the morning. This fragrance will also bring a little bit of joy to all those near you.
This is a recipe of one of my favorite body oils that I made a few years ago. It still remains a favorite. The smell in absolutely yummy! I came up with it just mixing up a few of my favorite essential oils with pure vanilla absolute oil and a carrier oil.
This oil makes a wonderful gift for any occasion to anyone who loves luxury pampering. Make some for yourself, your best friend, and a colleague. Mother’s Day is coming up so make one for your mother too!
What you will need:
6 or 8 oz. Bottle
Sunflower, Jojoba, or Coconut Oil
Ylang Ylang Essential Oil
Mix 20 drops of each essential oil and vanilla absolute oil in the bottle. Now fill up the rest of the bottle leaving some empty space at the top and gently shake. Let this oil sit overnight. In the morning it will be ready to use. This body oil has a sweet woodsy scent that is unbelievable especially with coconut oil!
If you decide to use coconut oil you may need to melt it in low heat on the stove and store in a jar versus a bottle as it will solidify once it cools. All of these ingredients can be found at my favorite online beauty source, Mountain Rose Herbs.
Enjoy!

I love love love this oil!!! I made it last week and it smells sooo good and makes my skin soft. I used coconut oil. I even put a little in my hair just for the scent. Thanks so much for this recipe!

I’m so glad that you love it! I love getting compliments on it when I wear it. I was on set once and shared it with a group of ladies on the job. I didn’t bring too much of it home that day, but it did get grave reviews.

Hello lovely, I was just wondering how long of a shelf life this would have? I am assuming since there is no water and nothing perishable that it should last for several months?
Thank you
Dawn Michelle says
Hi Karly,
Sunflower oil has a shelf life of 1 year. Coconut oil has a shelf life of 2 years, and jojoba oil has a shelf life of about 2 or more years. Any DIY product that does not contain water, aloe vera, or perishable liquid usually has a stable shelf life. Any natural oil or butter formulation without water, aloe, coconut milk, etc has a pretty stable shelf life if the oils and butters used are fresh and essential oils are added. This recipe especially with coconut oil is super yummy! Hope this helps.
Happy Holidays!

Hello….What do you think if something has an oil, maybe grapeseed or safflower , or a combo of those, and then beeswax and water….so with those ingredients, what is the shelf life, would you keep in fridge and would that solve the shelf life issue? Would you add something to preserve it? vit e? How much? Or are essential oils a preservative? I made this last year with pumpkin seed oil, I never thought to preserve, since it smelled ok. But I would like it to be the freshest ! Can you advise? I trust you:)
Dawn Michelle says
Hi Mama,
Any time you mix water in with oil you need to use a full spectrum preservative to prevent bacteria. I have made DIY beauty products such as flaxseed gel for the hair which contains water and have keep it in the refrigerator for no more than 1-1.5 weeks before tossing. Essential oils are not preservatives. You can not detect bacteria by smell alone.

Sorry I forgot to ask one more question – do you think one could put some slices of fresh ginger, or even some dried/powdered ginger in this for a spicy scent? Would it affect its shelf life?
Thank you
Dawn Michelle says
I think ginger essential oil would be the easiest and fastest option for preparation. You can infuse dried herbs with carrier oils which I talk about in this article. I personally wouldn’t use fresh ginger though. Enjoy!

Hi Rose Melendez,
Ginger is amazing for digestion and a fresh ginger tea would be the best! Thanks for sharing this too!
