Major Overhaul

My home is finally becoming neat and spacious.  Still I continually clear out our apartment. I did another major overhaul just yesterday.  It was an all day project and a thankfully a successful one.

My goal is to get rid of my storage containers and its content. I hardly ever look for anything inside the bins anyway.  Plus there’s always more hiding in the closets.

I put everything that was out of place as well as the storage bins in the middle of the living room floor.  Some items were put away properly and others were put into two piles; one was recyclables and the other for Goodwill.  I eliminated three bags of items to recycle and three more bags to take to Goodwill.

I have two confessions.  I enjoy rereading cards that I’ve been given, and I keep a small stack in a closet.  Admitting that makes me want to recycle them right now.  My other confession is that I still have VHS tapes.  Some are of dance performances work I did. The old movie and fitness tapes will go to Goodwill, and the rest I’ll recycle. I’m a bit embarrassed I haven’t converted those dance tapes to digital yet!

VHS tapes like other electronic items are Ewaste and need to be discarded carefully.  You can find a Ewaste recycling center near you online at Earth911.   Other examples of Ewaste include car batteries, cell phones, CD’s, computers, inkjet cartridges, all batteries, telephones, televisions, mp3 players, office machines, etc.  Please don’t put any of these items in the trash!  I found a free Ewaste recycling center near me that even does pick ups if you have five or more items.  I’m sending off my VHS tapes, my old cell phone, some old batteries, a few CD’s, and an electronic organizer to the recycling center.

Every time I declutter another area of my home, I rethink anything that I want to buy.  I only like recycling or giving to Goodwill.  I’d rather not have tons of items that get tossed in the trash which will later just sit in landfills.  I think my next project will be donating and selling the books that I no longer read.  I’m one day closer to becoming more minimal.
