Learning about oils high in linoleic acid has been the biggest blessing. I can hardly believe it’s been six years that I’ve used oils high in linoleic acid for my skin care routine exclusively. With consistent and continuous use, I’ve watched my skin heal, soften, and clear up. I no longer deal with consistent breakouts (or even breakouts at that time of the month) nor do I have scarring which take forever to heal. Instead my skin looks healthy and is predictable.
I’ve stopped searching for the next best thing in skin care because I already found it.
With all of the skin care marketing of five step routines on the scene, I never thought that healing my skin could be so simple. I use oils high in linoleic acid for my skin care, and eat a very healthy diet. Now mind you, I don’t eat refined sugars or processed foods, and I mainly cook at home from scratch. I also focus on gentle ways to detox the body.
Having a simple regimen consistenting of oils high in linoleic acid such as the AZUHA Red Raspberry Skin Elixir has been the icing on the cake.
One of the biggest benefits of healing my skin with oils high in linoleic acid has been not needing to wear makeup. This is something that I can go into much more detail later on. My skin breaths daily, and doesn’t need to be cleansed heavily in the evenings to remove makeup.
The combination of only using oils high in linoleic acid for my skin along with leaving makeup behind has been awesome!
It makes me wish I had known about the benefits of these oils years ago. Back then my skin would have clear moments then the usual breakout that would put me back at square one. My skin is now consistently clear and my pores much smaller. Plus my skin care regimen has become almost obsolete.
I predominately wash my face with water, moisturize with the AZUHA Red Raspberry Skin Elixir, then go about my day.
On occasion I may oil cleanse with whatever oil I have at the time that is high in linoleic acid, or use raw honey as a face wash. Honestly without the perseverance of leaving traditional skin care, there would have been no victory. My skin did experience a transition initially. Over time the acid mantle of my skin healed from all of the harsh peels and treatments I had done in the past.
Who else has experienced the tremendous benefits of using oils high in linoleic acid exclusively? I’d love to hear your thoughts. You can learn more about the AZUHA Red Raspberry Skin Elixir here, and read more about oils high in linoleic acid here. They are a true gem for acne prone skin.
Much Love!

Hi Dawn,
What do you do for sunscreen?
Dawn Michelle says
Hi Sharifa,
I haven’t worn sunscreen in awhile. Instead I wear protective clothing (ex: a white long sleeve button up with a long skirt) and a sun hat when I know I’ll be outside a long time. I actually dress this way all of the time and wear my hat when taking the dog out etc. If I do wear sunscreen it is from the Badger’s brand. I use this sunscreen on my son.

for me, leaving behind the main-market skincare products was game-changing. once i stopped scrubbing with cleansers and exfoliating, switched to pure mineral make-up if any, and stopped slathering my skin with stuff, it began to heal very quickly. i also gave up on bought sunscreens and rely instead on avoiding and physically blocking sun with parasol use. (mineral foundation powder has a decent SPF too, though.) as i gave up synthetic hormonal birth control use, and my diet grew cleaner, my hormones rebalanced, so cyclical breakouts were fewer and less angry-looking. my personal skincare is just water in the morning, followed by my homemade oil-based (rosehip and argan work well for me) serum and a tiny dab of weleda rose cream or calendula cream around the eyes and mouth. if desired, a light touch of mineral powder and mascara. at night, wash with warm water or a dab of coconut oil, then a few drops of my serum. once or twice a fortnight, i may do a homemade mask, but it’s not really required. i had similar happy results with changing from conventional haircare products and habits to ‘doing less’ and using only natural and/or homemade products.
i’ll never go back to the expense, hassle, and rubbish results of conventional products!

Hi Dawn!
I found your website while researching oils for Oil Cleansing Method (OCM). Even after only 1 month of using OCM i am so surprised by the changes it makes! I initially did not know about the Linoleic/Oleic balance and was more concerned with comedogenic rating, so i was using Sweet Almond Oil to virtually no effect. Now i am using Sunflower oil and my skin is alot happier! Just one question, i am noticing fine lines on my face (i am not getting any younger!) and was wondering if you know any high Linoleic oils to use only on lines/wrinkles? Or would these go over into the high Oleic category? (they would be just for direct wrinkle treatment and not over my entire face) And i would love to know what you use as an exfoliator? At the moment i am using a store-bought scrub exfoliator because its my old staple, but i really want to go over to something natural once the bottle runs out! Thank you so much!
Dawn Michelle says
Hi Jools,
I’m so glad that this info on oils hogh in linoleic acid has been helpful to you. I no longer use a specific store bought exfoliator for my skin. Raw honey gently exfoliates. When I oil cleanse, I use a soft microfiber cloth that gently exfoliates as well. I don’t exfoliate a certain amount of times per week and mainly just wash my face with water. As for dealing with fine lines, I really like rosehip seed oil (one of the ingredients in the Red Raspberry Skin Elixir). I hope this helps some.
Jools says
Thank you so much for the reply! My skin is combination, and i read that Rosehip oil is for dry skin, do you think this would be ok? Also, do you recommend entire face application or just directly to fine lines? I appreciate the help, there is so much different info on OCM out there but you seem to know your stuff! Best wishes,
Dawn Michelle says
Hi Jools,
You can use rosehip seed oil all over the entire face. I found that rosehip seed oil was good for my combination skin amd helped fo balance it so that it was neither oily or dry. I hope this helps.

Hi,
Your success gives me hope! My question is whether you still take the Estroblock?
Thanks!
Dawn Michelle says
Hi Pj,
I used Estroblock mainly in 2015. I haven’t used it in years but it was helpful to me at the time.

Hi!! I’ M SO IN LOVE WITH YOUR BLOG! Thank you for all this precious information so necessary to be able to do your own cosmetics at home.
I hope you can answer my 2 questions please:
-Have you got a recipe on a DIY conditioner (a conditioner to use after cleaning your hair, for example, with rhassoul clay. The kind of conditioner you use after washing your hair when it’s still damp, you let it sit and rinse it) ?
-I’m interested in Rhassoul clay as a hair cleanser and I saw you use aloe Vera juice instead of Apple Cider Vinegar which is fine for me because I’m not a big fan of ACV. Does aloe Vera juice balance Ph of Rhassoul clay? And how much do you use?
(By the way, my hair is Caucasian, 2a-2b wavy and it’s so hard to enhance waves my God!!)
Thank you very much, yearning your answer! Hugs from Spain!
Dawn Michelle says
Hi Natalia,
Thank you so much. I have a simple DIY leave-in for hair and a DIY curl conditioning serum, plus you could also do an oil rinse with a light oil such as jojoba or grapseed oil. I hope this helps.
Natalia says
Thank you very much! I’ll try both recipes! How about Rhassoul? Does aloe vera juice balances Ph instead of ACV? Oh and the cleansing conditioner recipe can I use it every time I wash my hair as a shampoo+conditioner and then use the serum+leave in? Thank you so much!!
Dawn Michelle says
Yes aloe vera is great for pH balancing. If the cleansing conditioner works well for your hair type and texture of course you can use if whenever you wash your hair following up with a DIY leave-in. It’s just about finding what works best for you.

I’m pretty sure your initial article about oils high in linoleic acid is what got me to my current facial oil, safflower. I am ready to start experimenting with adding other high linoleic oils to the safflower because I feel like safflower on its own is just doing the bare minimum (not breaking me out and keeping my face from drying out) and I know there are so many beautiful oils that have other benefits for the skin. Thank you for the inspiration!
Dawn Michelle says
Hi Ashley,
This is great to hear. Safflower oil is pretty amazing. It is great for hair too. Best wishes!
gathoni says
Hi Dawn Michelle! Your skin looks absolutely beautiful. 🙂 you inspired me to go makeup free some years ago and my skin has been much better for it. I also practice a high linoleic acid oil regimen and my skin seems to have recovered. Are you still using a vitamin C serum?
Dawn Michelle says
Hi gathoni,
Thank you so much. I’m so glad you’ve had success with a new skin care regimen. I actually haven’t used a vitamin C serum for awhile now. I’ve had to keep things minimal because of the many things I’m trying to keep up with. I still believe that they are helpful though. I hope you’re having a great day.

Hi Dawn!
I have struggled with hormonal acne for years and made the switch to oils about 4 years ago with hemp oil making the biggest difference. Sadly I found it too heavy in the summer and moved more toward argan oil. My skin is still very unpredictable. Lately I have been reading that oils aren’t actually all that moisturizing and I have been implementing a hyaluronic acid serum after washing with water as well as a toner spray. Drum roll, you guessed it, breakouts. I even went back to a cleanser because I thought that might help. Well, it didn’t. My skin is angry, red, pimply and all around mad at me for being NYE and looking like a teenager again! Long story short, help! Maybe I should go back to only oils? I’m feeling lost and would love any insight. Hope you are well!
Dawn Michelle says
Hi Becky,
Argan oil is high in oleic acid. Going back to a simpler regimen is never a bad decision in my opinion. Maybe trying an oil high in linoleic acid would be a good idea again. A share a list here. Hope this helps you.
Becky says
Thanks so much! I’m back to hemp and crossing my fingers for some clarity!

Dawn Michelle,
Thank you so much!
I stumbled across your page about what oils to use on my face back in late 2018. I have polycystic ovaries syndrome so have always had acne and the thought of going to work or out socially without makeup was incomprehensible. Since trying pumpkin oil as per your recommendation I stopped all commercial moisturisers then also stopped washing my face and exfoliating too. My acne started to clear from day 1 and the more I left my skin alone the more it cleared, it is now no longer an ‘oil-slick’ that nobody was allowed to touch. Last year I even stopped wearing makeup entirely, a new me emerged. I was so passionate about this that my daughter now uses pumpkin oil too, I add essential oils now specially tailored to our needs, and we have both recommended it to lots of people. I always reference your blog! Thank you so much.
Dawn Michelle says
Hi Laura,
This is such an AWESOME testimony!!!!! I am so happy for you and your daughter. Thank you so much for sharing this. It really means a lot. Wishing you only the very best of everything.

Hey Dawn!
I am really thankful for finding your article about oleic and linoleic acid in oils because I didn’t know anything about that and I kept struggling with acne regularly and not understanding why do they sometimes go away and then come back. After your article I started using grape seed oil to wash my skin at night and raspberry seed oil to moisturise in the morning and evening and it made such a huge difference with the amount of my brake outs! My skin started to clear up significantly and now I only get a few acne here and there but definitely not nearly as much as I used to! I eat healthy most of the time but I also noticed that my skin got almost completely acne free when I started drinking celery juice every morning! So thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience in taking care of your skin in a simple and natural way, it helped me a lot. 🙂
Have a beautiful day!
Dawn Michelle says
Hi Marina,
Thanks so much for sharing this. It’s always so good to know tht this info has been helpful to someone. It’s simple but it really does work. Best wishes to you.
Eva Martin says
Wow, amazing transformation! Do you use any kind of soap to wash your face or just plain water? I am really curious about that raspberry elixir, might give it a try!
Dawn Michelle says
Hi Eva,
I don’t use any soap on my face. Soap is alkaline and way too harsh for the skin on my face. After using oils high in linoleic acid for so many years without any harsh facial cleansers, my skin has balanced and healed allowing me to use less overall to keep my skin clear. I feel that harsh facial cleansers and treatments disrupt the skin’s acid mantle and create product dependacy in a bad way.
This process has taken time though. I didn’t start out just washing my face with water. I used raw honey as a face wash, as well as clays, and oil cleansing. Much of the journey has been shared here on my blog. I still will use raw honey amd oil cleansing sometimes now. I’m no longer dependant on either though.
