If everyone played and loved the same music, I can only imagine how boring life would be. Diversity is what makes us all unique and adds so much vibrant color and texture to everything. One thing that I have never understood is how dancing to a different drum beat can often make someone else feel so uncomfortable and concerned.
Whenever I hear uninvited skepticism, it usually comes from a place of being uninformed and being excessively consumed with fear. Yes, being careful in life is important. Yet following the norm just because is neither being careful or intuitively connected. Others say to listen to your intuition, but when your intuition sounds different from theirs, it must not be right. How could something be so good for one, yet not another. I have a feeling it is because we are not all the same.
There is nothing wrong with dancing to the rhythm of your own drum; it is actually being in tune with your authentic self.
In fact it helps to cultivate a rich sense of self worth and confidence, it adds more meaning to your life purpose, and it can be extremely liberating. There is nothing more valuable in life than allowing who you truly are and your innate desires in life to shine as brightly as possible. If I had never followed the rhythm of my own drum beat, I would have never moved so far away from home, become a professional dancer, explored different facets of my creativity, and this blog most likely wouldn’t exist. It is vital to everyone’s life to create your own path.
Sometimes you never know where life will take you. The road has ups and downs and only on occasion are there gorgeous flowers lining the path as in the picture above. That doesn’t meant that it isn’t the right path for you, and neither should this path be judged by others.
Listening to your intuition and following the rhythm of your own drum beat never comes from a place of fear.
It is usually a calm knowing that you are instinctively led to follow. Anxiety rarely enters the picture until you become concerned about what others may think, or someone shares their unwelcome fear and anxieties with you. You may have heard the expression that F.E.A.R. represents “false evidence appearing real.”
I’m becoming more and more aware that other’s fears and anxieties have nothing to do with me. Our society is misguided with fear everyday to keep us distracted and conforming to the masses. When you step out of fear and find your own truth, you will most likely appear strange to others. Yet once again this is diversity.
Diversity of thought or action is not something to be afraid of and instead enthusiastically embraced.
Comforming to anything that does not feel right just to please someone else will only do you more harm than good down the road. If life was always meant to be comfortable in every way, I doubt it would even exist as it does. We are not meant to try to people please or comfort others with our every move and decision. Life is much bigger than that.
We are here for a unique life purpose, and ours will not look like another’s. We are here to express our divine light that will only shine as we let it. If you can’t handle another’s drum beat, create your own music.
Otherwise play on sister, play on!

Perfectly said and I shall play on and be me, be different, be unique in my own way.

Hi Triciana,
Yes play on sister! Thanks for taking the time to comment!

I love this so much! So perfectly put. I’m one of the people who dances to their own drum and yes, there’s been so much judgment, but it’s worth it to grow as a person and to pursue my own path! I’m cheering you on in your journey!

Hi Himawari,
Thank you! Judgement does sometimes come with being your authentic self, but people who are truly at peace with themselves know that they can’t do it any other way. It is always worth the personal growth and self love in the end!

This is so true Dawn. Before I find myself about to judge, I contemplate on how what I see is related to my own consciousness. There is always a connection.
Good post.

Hi Sandy,
That is a very powerful approach because there usually is some connection in one form or another. Thanks so much for sharing this!

“Love your rhythm, and rhythm your actions
under its law, as well as your verses;
you are a universe of universes
and your soul fount of songs.”
