As I unpack our new place, I am very clear now that being clutter free and living a true minimalist lifestyle are two very different things. This past week was my first move in six years. It was the longest I’ve ever lived in one place since graduating high school. After three years of decluttering and finally moving, I realize that I can definitely pare down my personal possessions a lot more.
This move was the most difficult move that I have ever done. It is wonderful to take into account your own personal possessions, yet when you move as a couple you move everything that you share as well as your partners things.
When I started out as a professional dancer, I had two bags that I easily moved from place to place. Later buying a few furniture pieces was a big deal since I would then need some help to move around. After this past week I am on a serious mission to downsize further. Striving for a minimalist lifestyle is truly a journey.
With this move we successfully downsized five pieces of furniture including the desk that I donated when decluttering my work space.
We then replaced our living room seating with an L-shaped couch which I will photograph soon and share. Also we donated books, kitchen appliances that we rarely use, and clothing that we no longer love to maximize space. One new piece that is the perfect minimalist decor is the wall art in the photo above that I put up in the bedroom. Although it took time to arrange, it was more fun to put up than I expected and so easy to do.
I am so happy to start a new week in our new home! Happy Monday!
