I’ve recently been thinking a lot about minimalist lifestyle challenges such as the 100 Thing Challenge and Project 333. The 100 Thing Challenge is about living with only 100 personal possessions including clothing. Project 333 is about limiting your wardrobe to 33 items including accessories, jewelry, outerwear and shoes for a total of three months.
The purpose of these challenges are to guide us on how we can live happily with so much less. I’ve already experienced immense joy with all of the decluttering that I’ve already done over the past few years, yet wonder if giving my minimalist lifestyle a number will bring more joy or stress. What I love most about these challenges is that living with less is also having a lighter carbon footprint on the planet.
Now that summer is here, I’m ready to tackle a few new decluttering projects, and begin creating some new goals for my minimalist lifestyle. I have said before that I am not an extreme minimalist, yet I can’t help but be curious what my life would look like living with 100 personal possessions. I’ve already pared down so much and love the peace that has resulted from it. Even though my home stays organized, clear, and open, I have yet to finish counting all of my personal possessions. This is my first minimalist goal that I’d like to complete.
One reason I’ve focused my decluttering efforts on my wardrobe is that I feel that living with a minimal wardrobe will make the 100 Thing Challenge much easier to do if I decide to tackle it. I feel as if I am much closer to embarking upon the 100 Thing Challenge now more than I have ever been before. I think I’m just curious if I can do it and what will result from it more than anything else.
With the 100 Thing Challenge you can create some of the rules to suit your current lifestyle. For instance certain items can be counted as one group such as books, undergarments, etc. I’ve already decided that I will count my supplies and products made for my Etsy store Azuha as one item. I will continue to keep those supplies limited to one container though.
Once again talk about moving has come up. My husband and I have been talking about moving for some time now. I honestly doubt it will be soon, yet I like be ready. It’s the Virgo in me. One of my minimalist dreams has been to move into our next home with great ease, and be able to completely set up in 1-2 days. It’s time to take my minimalist lifestyle to the next level. This week I will be sharing more about my progress.
Have any of you done the 100 Thing Challenge or Project 333? What do you think about Minimalist Challenges?
