I honestly believe that the days of lip gloss are slowly fading into the background. Strong bold lip color is now a bigger part of the beauty scene more than ever. As much as I’ve always admired those who wore red lipstick, I never wanted to deal with its high maintenance upkeep or getting in on my teeth. Not a cute look! I used to like lip stains, yet they can also be high maintenance while also drying out your lips. My solution for wearing bold lip colors all night long is so simple. I made it through another evening out without even thinking about my makeup, checking it, or reapplying.
Forget about lipstick all together and get the same look you desire with a lip pencil. Lip liner actually lasts longer which is why makeup artists will sometimes apply liner all over your lips under lipstick and gloss. Although lipstick and gloss is nice, I think they are still high maintenance. I like things to be as simple as possible so I can focus on something else.
You first need a smooth surface to work on. Exfoliate your lips with a sugar and vegetable glycerin scrub like this one, or gently massage your lips with your tooth brush after brushing your teeth which is even easier. Then use a creamy lip liner to create the desired bold lip look. My current favorite is Zuzu Luxe Lip Liner in “Port” which is a berry red which is completely chemical free with natural ingredients. By the end of the evening my lip color was still in tact just as I like it to be. I did apply a bit of lip balm on top once but that’s it.
(Side Note: I attended a Dancers’ Alliance Meeting this evening for the new Music Video Agreement that was finalized and announced in detail at the event. I am in awe of the women and men who stood their ground to get dancers higher rates and desirable working conditions in this industry. There is so much talent and inspiration in this city and I am extremely grateful to be a part of it. Thank you Dancers’ Alliance! I will share photos later.)
