I recently signed up with Change.org to begin signing petitions to promote and support the changes I want to see in the world. For the longest time I would hear about events that were going on and be greatly upset by them. I may have taken a quiet moment to say a prayer, yet I wasn’t aware that with a simple signature on an online petition I could create a positive impact. Who knew that a simple click could make such a massive difference!
Change.org is an online site devoted to creating petitions on bringing personal, global, and government issues to the forefront, and allowing a platform for citizens all over the world to sign them. Many of these petitions have caused large corporations or governments to take notice and create that change that was deeply desired. There are petitions dealing with so many topics including animals, criminal justice, economic justice, education, environmental issues, gay rights, health, human rights, human trafficking, immigrant rights, sustainable foods, and women’s rights.
Instead of just watching the news, Change.org is a way to participate and take action with creating the news that we want to see.
Some of the petitions that relate to topics on Minimalist Beauty are…
Healthy Cosmetics
Petitioning The U.S. Senate–FDA: Remove Toxic Chemicals from Cosmetics & Skincare Products
Genetically Modified Foods & Healthy Food
Petitioning The Governor of HI–Hawaii GMO labeling petition
Petitioning USDA’s Animal & Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) and FDA–Say NO to GMO Apples
Petitioning Margaret Hamburg, MD–FDA: Get cancer-causing chemicals out of ALL food packaging now!
Compassionate Consumerism
Petitioning Yangkyu Y.K. Kim–Samsung: stop exploiting child laborers
There are many petitions which would benefit with your signature. The petitions above are just a few that I signed. You can create an account on Change.org with your Facebook page or an email account that you create specifically for petitions to avoid excessive emails. You can also use your maiden name and work address for privacy reasons. Once you’ve created an account, you can sign a petition with a simple click. It takes only a few minutes to sign, and your signature can truly make a difference. There are tons of victories which you can see here from just signing a petition. If there is a cause that is dear to your heart, you can also create your own petition and get the word out.
If you want change in the world, know that you yourself can actually make a difference!
Enjoy your weekend!

I’m all for chemical free products. The thing is, my parents aren’t hip to it. They use the chemical products they’re used to. It such a struggle to be in a chemical household when you’re chemical free. I even have my own hand soap dispenser filled with dr bronners baby mild soap or coconut soap as opposed to using their chemical laden handsoap. However, they use chemical laden dishwashing liquid, bug sprays, cleaners, etc. As a result, I’m affected by it even though I don’t use it myself. Is castile soap or coconut soap effective at removing chemical residues from skin? Or must you use “green” mildly chemical soap? I feel like I can’t keep being natural when my efforts are thwarted. It’d be nice if everything were chemical free…

Hi Gina,
This may be a topic that you can sit down and talk to your parents about. It is possible that they don’t have as much information about it. Also if you are in The States you can opt for suggesting that they try laundry detergent and dishwasher soap etc. from Trader Joe’s which is rather inexpensive compared to other eco-friendly household products. As for what you are personally using, continue using the chemical free products that you love. I hope that this is helpful to you and thanks for your comment.
Best,
Dawn Michelle

Thank you for replying. I talked to them, but since nothing has happened to them, they figure that it’s fine. They think it’s crazy to avoid chemicals. It strains our relationship at times. I’m not sure how to convince otherwise, but I’ll try.

Hi Gina,
I completely understand where you’re coming from. I’m thought of as the “extremist” in my family. I was the first to go vegetarian, and am way more eco, granola, whatever you want to call it than my family. When I first became vegetarian years ago, I talked about it non-stop and most likely annoyed my friends and family.
When you just learn something new, you can become so passionate about it that consumes you. It can also be upsetting that the ones closest to you don’t feel the same way about your new passion. Over time they may understand and sometimes jump on board. Even if they don’t, it is important to love them as they are without judgement. In general I like to lead quietly by example. Now I write about it. Have you thought of writing about the eco lifestyle or joining an eco campaign or organization?
Best wishes to you!
