Life changing wardrobe staples can really add strength to an otherwise modest closet. When you are creating a capsule wardrobe specifically these types of staples can make a huge difference. I decided to revamp an older style post today with a current twist since I’m sharing the pieces that I love which are currently in my wardrobe. Two pieces are from my F/W capsule and the other two are from my S/S capsule…
I have a friend, a very serious fashionista, who would buy seven pairs of the same jeans because the item was “life changing”. Yes seven of any one item isn’t minimalist at all, but enjoying fashion can be. The truth is I completely understand the concept. Confession… I live by it, in a much more minimal way. There really are fashion items that can change your life! Getting ready for any occasion can definitely be easy especially with a well thought out capsule wardrobe. There are very specific clothing items that not only complete your look, but transform something ordinary into phenomenal.
That life changing style item for me is the perfect jacket! It goes well with jeans and a t-shirt, a floral print dress with boots, and looks amazing with trousers or a pencil skirt. What I love most about the perfect jacket is that is completes any look with polished appeal without having done much at all… little effort, instant glamour. I’m all about not having to work hard to look great. Yet sometimes the work is actually in finding that perfect life changing staple, in this case the beloved jacket. Here are four classic jacket staples that can really give your wardrobe a boost.
The classic blazer can truly add easy chic appeal to even the most basic wardrobe pieces. It can go to work with you or be that go-to-item with jeans and a tee on the weekend. This navy blazer was a great vintage find.
A Leather Jacket
A unique leather jacket can be very elegant with a dress and strappy heels and also edgy with jeans. You can never go wrong with black leather jacket as it never goes out of style. This black leather jacket is my favorite F/W jacket and another incredible vintage find. I was beyond ecstatic when I found this number in San Francisco. I simply removed the outrageous 80’s shoulder pads for a much more modern look.
The Unstructured Jacket
The unstructured jacket doesn’t have to specifically be an unstructured blazer like this one. It could be a more casual anouk style jacket or knit jacket. Still a casual jacket is necessary for a more thought out look when the weather is neither really hot or cold. This thrifted unstructured blazer is one of my favorite pieces from this past spring.
There’s nothing that really needs to be said about the classic trench. The classic trench is timeless and I’ve seen both traditional and very edgy trench coats. What I do love about this trench (also thrifted) is that it works beautifully almost all year round and it has a red lining which pops if I decide to roll the sleeves up.
One thing for sure is that a well fitted jacket can make a simple outfit come to life like no other wardrobe piece… except maybe an incredible shoe. Regardless a perfect jacket can and will change your life! At least it has mine. Here’s an example, although from last fall, of how a jacket can make a tee and jeans look like something a lot more polished…
