I’ve been really thinking about ways in which I can cut down the plastic packaging on the items that I purchase.  A majority of plastic packaging specifically always seems to comes from food and cosmetic items in my household.  It takes a conscious effort to make these types of lifestyle changes, yet they are vital to reducing waste, landfill pollution, and ocean pollution.  Today I'm sharing what I decided to do with the organic cotton terry scraps from the pieces I've been designing.

Before I ran out of the organic cotton beauty rounds that I purchased from the drug store, I traced the exact shape onto the scraps of leftover fabric from the two dresses and faux wrap skirt that I designed.  I ended up cutting about 40 little circles.  I then paired them together and sewed them.  I paired them so that one side was smooth and the other was the terry cloth side for varied uses.

These DIY Organic Cotton Beauty Rounds are definitely perfectly imperfect which I guess gives them character.   Yet they are also super soft, and they now replace the need to purchase cotton balls or cotton rounds in a plastic bag from the store.  To care for them I'll simply toss them into a small mesh laundry bag and wash them with the rest of my laundry.

The best thing about having reusable items is that you save money while protecting the planet.  If you don't have organic cotton scraps, use an soft old t-shirt and create your own reusuable beauty rounds.  Finding new ways to reinvent old items or leftover materials is the BEST thing you could ever do for the planet.
