I’m not sure exactly when it happened, yet I am an all year long DIY gift giver. It could be handmade jewelry, baked goods, or most recently DIY bath, hair, and body gifts. There is something very unique and special about handmade gifts from the heart.
Today I wanted to share an updated list of incredible and easy to make DIY bath and body gifts that you can give this holiday season or for any occasion actually. Finding beautiful cobalt blue glass bottles, lovely glass jars, or simple metal tins to package the product adds that special touch. With a little creativity, DIY bath, hair, and body gifts are luxuriously amazing. Plus DIY holiday gifts are double the love!
DIY Mandarin Nutmeg Lip Balm
Lip balms are probably one of the easiest natural cosmetics to make. I find that they can sometimes double as hand salves or even super emollient butters for dry irritated skin by using soothing essential oils. I’ve even used this lip balm recipe to create a clear and natural pigmented lip balm using annatto root powder which gives a rich tangerine tone which I completely adore.
DIY Fragrance Hair/Body Oil
This is a recipe of one of my favorite body oils that I made years ago. It still remains a favorite. The smell is beyond yummy, yet sweet with a kick! I came up with it just mixing up a few of my favorite essential oils such as ylang ylang, frankincense, and lavender with pure vanilla absolute oil and a carrier oil. Although this oil was intended as a body oil, it would certainly make an incredible fragrance oil for hair as well. Don’t sleep on this one!
DIY Natural Perfume Spray–The Alcohol Based Method
One of the best reasons to create your own perfume is to have a custom blended fragrance that you adore as well as a toxic free perfume. It has been scientifically documented that synthetic fragrance create allergies, immunotoxicity, and neurotoxicity. To make this natural perfume simply use 30% essential oils to 70% alcohol and stir slowly. This recipe is extremely simple to make. I also link to a site within the article with essential oil combinations to help with creating your own personal fragrance.
DIY Tropical Vanilla Hair/Body Butter
While the weather isn’t exactly beach ready, here is a body butter to naturally prepare you for that summer glow six months from now or if you have a beach holiday coming up this winter. This hair and body butter may even take you tropical paradise in your warm bathroom, well at least mentally for a moment I hope. This DIY Tropical Vanilla Hair/Body Butter contains the best of both worlds: a sweet smell and a sun-kissed glow with added mica if you choose, not to mention keep your skin super soft. If you plan to use this for both hair and body leave the mica out.
DIY Sweet Sugar Body Scrub
This is probably one of the easiest body care products you can make yourself with what you already have in your kitchen cabinets. The benefits of using a body scrub is to assist the natural process of skin shedding and reveal new skin cells, and also to prevent to appearance of uneven skin tone and blemishes. You can use white or brown sugar with your favorite carrier and essential oils with this recipe. You can also use vegetable glycerin instead of a carrier oil so that your tub or shower does not get slippery after use. Also think about using fine sea salt instead of sugar if you like too.
DIY Rosehip & Carrot Seed Facial Serum
This anti-aging facial serum was designed for mature skin, yet you could always swap out any of the carrier oils for any of your favorites, or even oils more suited for acne prone skin even though a few of them in this recipe actually are. Helichrysum, lavender, and carrot seed essential oil are all phenomenal for skin regeneration, healing scars, and softening fine lines. Why not even make an extra bottle for yourself!
DIY Sensual Perfume Solid
Sometimes solid perfumes are easier to carry, yet that doesn’t mean they lack an incredible scent. Making perfume solids make great stocking stuffers, and they also pair well with any other DIY body treat. This perfume solid recipe has an earthy scent and is created with 100% pure essential oils such as lavender, clary sage, sweet marjoram, juniper berry, and vetiver.
DIY Herbal Hair Rinse
Let’s say you wanted to make only one item, yet wanted something extra easy to add with your other DIY bath and body gift that looks as beautiful as potpourri in a lovely mesh bag. Well creating a herbal hair rinse mix with dried herbs and flowers can be just that simple yet luxurious gift. It’s mainly all about the packaging and personalizing the perfect combination of herbs for dry, oily, or normal hair which are listed in the link above. Definitely include dried flowers for that special touch and their extra healing benefits.
Now with the ideas and recipes linked, here are a few awesome DIY bath and beauty combinations that would bring a warm touch to anyone’s heart!
DIY Herbal Hair Rinse + DIY Tropical Vanilla Hair/Body Butter
DIY Sugar Scrub + DIY Fragrance Hair/Body Oil
DIY Rosehip & Carrot Seed Facial Serum + DIY Sensual Perfume Solid
DIY Mandarin Nutmeg Lip Balm + DIY Natural Perfume Spray
The combinations of luxurious DIY bath, hair, and body products that one could make are endless. Be creative and have fun with this. Giving the gift of baked goodies are also a great gift idea, yet these will last a bit longer!
I’m sure that these DIY beauty gifts will truly be loved! Happy Holidays!

Very nice gift ideas! Hoping you will share some photos of your Christmas decor this year in your new home. I always find photos of real homes inspirational for ideas for my own home. Thank you for sharing the gift ideas!

Thanks Tammy!
I just put up our tiny Christmas tree two days ago. I don’t really go all out with holiday decorations though. I use candles and music to do most of the decorating energy wise for me. I do plan to take some pictures of our new place soon and sharing our minimalist holiday decor would be a great idea too! <3

I can almost smell the DIY Fragrance Body oil mixture while following the recipe. All of these oils resonate with me. Thanks so much.
I’d like an idea on how to package as a gift.
I’m going to make this for holiday gifts and I noticed that the recipe calls for 8 ounce bottles.
Do you use the blue or amber bottles? How do you present the gift? Do you add a label or tie to the bottle?
Dawn Michelle says
Hi Sandy,
I use both amber and cobalt blue glass bottles yet prefer the look of the cobalt blue. If I use small bottles I will write down the ingredients down in the card and use ribbon to tie on the bottle. I keep my wrapping very simple. If I make 8 ounces of a product I will use 2 or 4 ounce packaging to have multiple gifts. Happy Holidays!
