We recently moved into a beautiful new apartment this past July. This move was extremely simple for a number of reasons which I get into detail here. Although unpacking was a breeze, decorating the way I desire is taking more time. Today I wanted to share how I created this gorgeous floral wall art very inexpensively with fabric flowers and yarn using a large upholstery needle.
Although very simple, this stunning piece is the perfect example of refreshing minimal decor especially for a serene bedroom.
I purchased eight white fabric flower bunches from the dollar store, yet you can use any color flower that you choose. The yarn used for this project was a gift that I never crocheted anything with, but absolutely perfect for this wall art project. This yarn is unique in that it is a flat yarn versus tubular which makes the overall finish quite lovely. I used an upholstery needle for this project which can be found at your local craft or sewing store.
The decor in our bedroom is very minimal consisting of our platform bed, a decorative corner table, and a lamp. I will share photos of our new modern apartment soon. This bedroom is much smaller than in our sweet bungalow, yet I still decided to catecorner the bed for a unique feel and for the best Feng Shui for both my husband and I. With a catecornered bed we desperately needed something decorative in the empty space behind the bed, and this DIY Bohemian Floral Wall Art is what I finally came up with after trying a few other things.
What you will need…
64 strips of yarn about 32″ in length
1 long strip of yarn about 130″ in length
64 fabric flower heads removed from the stem
A upholstery needle
Two picture hanging nails
To begin thread your needle with a 32″ strip of yarn. You don’t need to pull the yarn all the way through only a few inches.
Put the needle into the base of the flower head.
Now pull the needle through.
Remove the needle and tie a double knot at the very end to secure the flower onto the yarn.
Pull the yarn so that the knot is hidden inside the head of the flower. Repeat these steps 63 more time so that each flower is strung.
Now double the 130″ piece of yarn in half and tie a knot at one end. I double the yarn so that there will be a loop at each end which will be used to hang the wall art on the wall. As you can see in the two photos below. one side of the finished product has a loop to hang over the nail, and the other side a knot.
I finally tie each flower onto this long piece of folded yarn with a very basic slip knot. I tie each flower at different lengths and purposely use a slip knot to adjust the length of each flower as needed, and the distance between each flower as needed. Once each flower is tied and this DIY art piece is nailed to the wall, you can then gently make adjustments as needed. You can see a photo of a few slip knots below.
The final results!
I am so pleased with how this project turned out, and also so happy that I finally had the chance to complete it. There are lots of simple DIY wall art projects that you can do to create beauty in your home. You don’t always have to spend a fortune to decorate! I’ll be sharing more photos of our new modern apartment soon!
Peace <3
