With the change in seasons my skin was in desperate need for a rejuvenating facial mask. I came across a few simple recipes for Ayurvedic masks containing turmeric that have been used for centuries especially for brides before their wedding for smooth glowing skin. The ingredients are easily found at an Indian grocer and extremely affordable.
What You Will Need:
Besan Flour (Chickpea Flour)
Yogurt, Coconut Milk, or Water
Mix 2 Tablespoons of Besan Flour, 2 Teaspoons of Honey (use raw organic honey preferably), 1/4 teaspoon of Turmeric Powder, and slowly add Yogurt, Coconut Milk, or water to create a smooth paste. Apply to clean dry skin and leave on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and tone and moisturize your skin as usual.
It is hard to describe exactly how amazing my skin felt after using this mask, yet it was smooth, glowy, and refreshed. After a few uses my skin appeared brighter, dark spots were significantly lighter, and my tan faded some as well. I came across using turmeric in skin care last year when looking for solutions for eczema.
Turmeric has powerful antioxidant and antibacterial properties that help heal acne, blackheads, hyperpigmentation, eczema, and psoriasis. It has also been known to slow down the aging process by improving skin’s elasticity. Look for kasturi turmeric instead of plain turmeric powder to avoid the staining properties that plain turmeric gives. I have been using plain turmeric powder, yet plan to find kasturi turmeric next time I am at the Indian grocer. Kasturi tumeric contains the same properties as the turmeric that is used for cooking yet it is not edible.
This mask can be used weekly or as needed. Some women use turmeric in their daily skin care. I can definitely see why! Have a beautiful weekend!
