Before the new year I decided I really wanted to get rid of some more unnecessary items in my life that I was keeping for no other reason outside of not allocating the time to decide what to do with them. I created The 33 Days Declutter Project to help me get downsize more and meet my goals. Each day I found three items to declutter with the exception of the first day where I released four items.
I made myself accountable to complete this decluttering project and shared my three items every day on social media.
Today I wanted to share the list of 100 things that I got rid of as a collective after completing The 33 Days Declutter Project. Some things I tossed if completely worn out, shredded if paperwork, others were given away, and a few items were assigned to sell. None of the items listed below were sentimental items. Many of them were old, worn out, broken, unused, unloved, and not my very best. Only keeping and using my very best of everything is important to me. I deserve it!

Compiling this list was actually really good for me to see. It has been a great way to acknowledge my progress on my minimalist journey.
I am in awe of some of the items I got rid of like the three pairs of broken sunglasses that were hiding in my car glove box, all of the random cords that don’t go with any current electronic item, the jewelry I don’t love or even think of wearing, and all of the broken and worn out things that I have no idea why they were still in my home. I also used this decluttering project to finally get through paperwork which I usually procrastinate about, and I even found some unknown film that I developed. They were pictures from my backpacking trip to the Eastern Sierra Nevadas. Many of the clothing items were pieces that I never wore even with a small capsule wardrobe so I made space for something that would work more effectively with the clothing that I do love and wear. You can read all the articles from The 33 Days Declutter Project here.
Well there you have it, the 100 things I decluttered! For those of you who did join me on this journey, I’d love to hear your thoughts on it afterwards and about the progress you made. Also any newbies curious of taking on The 33 Days Declutter Project?

I LOVE this and I am so on this!!! 🙂 I was trying to “tidy” up my bedroom today I threw out odd bits and pieces but I still have a ton of stuff that I shoved in drawers and will never use! Thanks for this!

Hi Maicurls,
Tidying up is great yet decluttering allows you to not even have to tidy up as much. I think that is why I love it so much. I don’t like spending too much time reorganizing things all the time. I wish you the very best with this. It is really empowering and rewarding!

Wow, this is awesome! After I’m more settled at my new job I definitely want to do this. Right now I’m still trying to return to status quo after the holiays! lol! My goal over the next few weeks is to have every surface clear again.
Dawn Michelle says
Thanks Brianna! I feel you about still getting things together after the holidays. I finally took my Christmas tree down yesterday! All surfaces clear is a great goal too by the way!

2014 I’m sticking to this! It’s so frustrating to search for things that don’t have a place because there’s clutter. Thanks!
Dawn Michelle says
Hi Kisha, Freeing up your space from clutter really helps a lot! Plus it makes you feel happier. Best wishes!

What a wonderful idea! I always encourage these smaller steps, because decluttering an entire home (or even room) in one day can seem super stressful.
Dawn Michelle says
Hi MJ,
This decluttering project was an incredible way to help me get out a lot of the small things I hadn’t gotten to yet on the minimalist lifestyle journey. It really does eliminate the stress versus trying to tackle your entire home or your entire room at one time.
Thanks for your comment and have a beautiful day!

What a lovely recap of your decluttering project. I got rid of over 100 things last month. I donated reusables to a thrift store and threw the rest of the items out (clothing, shoes, household items, and other things). I still want to do more and this is a good reminder to do so!
Dawn Michelle says
Hi ScentualSoundtracks,
Since having done this project I too have even more things in my car to sell/donate. I have become more comfortable being honest with myself if I really love something or not. Once I’m honest it is really easy to let go. Best wishes simplifying more!

Wonderful inspiration and reminder to get rid of and/or donate to the next person, things I don’t need. Motivated to do my own declutter!

Hi Cheryl Rose,
The 33 Days Declutter Project is an awesome way to release the unneeded/unwanted possessions without creating too much stress during the process. Happy decluttering!

Let’s start this again in 2015

Hi Kate,
After listening to the audio book on the Konmarie Method, I can see now that decluttering only a few things a day only touches the surface for paring down. I mention the book here. I will definitely keep it in mind though. <3
