I found a pair of 80’s red leather pants in a size 12/14 during one of my thrift shopping trips last year. I finally decided what to do with the material. The pants were in fantastic condition, yet too large to wear well, so I figured that I would do something with the material instead.
I did a bit of research online to learn about working with leather to learn the skills I needed to take these leather pants and make a simple leather clutch bag instead.
The leather from these pants are buttery soft so pretty easy to work with. I purchased matching polyester thread and a zipper to bring it all together. I used a hard back book as my pattern. My finished product is unlined, yet sturdy enough for my keys, mirror, lip stain, iPhone, money and whatever else I desire to toss in there.
I’m thinking about making more clutch bags and accessories with these pants to possibly sell in my Etsy shop Azuha.
When you shop in thrift stores, sometimes you can look beyond the item and see quality fabric that can be designed into anything that your creativity will allow. I have a few more ideas for these pants that I’m looking forward to playing will. Curious about my view on leather, read this.
