“You have changed my life! I have suffered (from) cystic acne for almost 13 years and my face is clearing up with a Vitamin A blend high in safflower and rose hip (oils) that I bought after reading this (article) last month. You’re my hero!” ~Erin Tatro Oils Specifically For Acne Prone Skin
“Great post. You are right about these microfiber towels. I have bigger pores and since using the towel with the warm water (plus some hemp seed oil), I have smaller pores, sleeker skin and a better tone. I got a 10 stack of towels at the dollar store. They are 100% polyester. Can’t beat that! Thanks” ~Lisa Microfiber Cleansing Cloths for Skin Care
“I discovered your website by faithful coincidence and is happier for it. I am a 40 year old mom of two and have had hyperpigmentation for most of my life and still continue to battle with it. I am slowly healing the process by using your insights. Thank you for being informative, simple and clear on so many facets. You helped me to take the lead in attaining my skin goals. I feel confident in revealing what is already there: glowing beautiful skin. Bless.” ~Nikki B INEXPENSIVE Gentle Facial Cleanser with Just Oats
“I used to be one of those people that sighed exaggeratedly every time I read someone saying that a blog or post of any kind on social media helped them make life altering changes, to know saying I have learned so much and made so many beneficial changes in my life because of your blog! So to that I thank you…” ~Sharice Stop Fighting Your Skin & Learn To Decode Its Messages
“Excellent article! I can’t believe it was written over two years ago, but I’m just now finding it. Every person suffering from acne should read it.
I suffered from acne for over 20 YEARS since the day I first got my period at age 12. It wasn’t until I discovered and began using natural oils high in linoleic acid as my main beauty regimen that my skin began to heal from chronic breakouts. Every word in this article, I agree with 100% and I couldn’t have said it any better or any different.
Over the course of over 20 years, I subjected my body to every kind of oral and topical medicine which damaged my body and skin. I spent thousands of dollars on harsh, chemical-laden and expensive products that only made me stuck in a vicious and reactive cycle of oily, dry, sensitive and reactive skin.
So many people, especially with acne-prone skin, are misinformed about natural oils. Almost every doctor, dermatologist and aesthetician will sell you harsh chemicals to treat acne only to cause their patients/customers to suffer more and destroy their skin in the process.
I wish all of this knowledge and information was available to me when I was a teenager, in my 20s or even 30s. But it’s never too late to heal and turn your skin around. Thank you for all the great information that you share with your community!” ~Jen Oils Specifically For Acne Prone Skin
“I know I shouldn’t say this but… your life is #GOALS. I mean even your writing emanates a sense of peace that I can barely dream of. I’m trying to find balance in my life and it is really complicated. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. I hope I can use this minimalism in my erratic life.” ~Jamila My Zero Waste Bath & Beauty Products
“I found this post almost exactly a year ago and started following your pumpkin seed oil and microfiber cloth routine. My skin is transformed! I had lots of acne, clogged pores, oiliness along with patches of flaky skin — all of that is gone. I almost never post comments on blogs, but I just had to say thank you.” ~Joanna High Linoleic Oils & Microfiber Cloths–My Daily Skin Care

Dry detangle: coconut oil
Deep condition: banana baby food
Shampoo: yucca root+hibiscus+marshmallow root
Condition: Suave naturals (I’m weening myself off slowly)
Leave-in: catnip tea spritz/shea butter
Dawn, thank you so much for taking the time to experiment and share with the community your research!!” ~Dima No More Chemical Hair Care–Part 4–Building A New Regimen
“Here in the midwest our “seasons” can change in a matter of days. I love the idea of one tiny wardrobe instead of a capsule. I have not been able to grasp the idea of a capsule wardrobe because so many items overlap. Looking forward to a blog about how you blended them together, and still kept it minimal.
Just recently found your blog after deciding to minimize my
lifestyle. I’ve been reading it quite a bit this weekend. You are extremely insightful and very helpful. My journey so far has been very freeing. Thank you!” ~Rebecca Fast Fashion Is Insatiable Madness
” Hi Dawn, Thank you SO much for your blog. I can’t tell you how much I’ve enjoyed reading it. I had been using Clarins products for years, along with lots of others and last year discovered Caudalie. I loved their products but the pricing was ridiculous. I got to thinking that if all the products I love are plant based, then why the heck was I spending so much money when surely I could get the essential oils myself. That was when I was blessed with discovering your site. I love your articles, you really investigate the different oils and have helped me so much. I began with the oil cleansing method, and if you hadnt explained wiping it off with a washcloth I would probably still be an oily mess but that did the trick and when I tried my old cleanser again, I couldn’t believe how it made my skin glow. Now I’m using oils as my moisturizer too and can’t believe how my skin just glows. Thank you for all the great info and PLEASE keep it up. I’m also trying a more minimalist lifestyle and you are so inspiring. Thank You!!” ~Tracey High Linoleic Oils & Microfiber Cloths–My Daily Skin Care
“Greetings, I just discovered your blog about a week ago and can’t stop reading it… I LOVE it! Your posts are so lovely and inspiring and you are a beautiful sista! I enjoy reading all the comments, too, and appreciate how you take the time to reply to everyone. BTW, I tried your bentonite/coconut milk cleanser/conditioner a few days ago… it just BLEW ME AWAY! My hair was so unbelievably soft. I can’t wait to try it again. Thank you so much!!” ~lotusearth Henna & Coconut Milk–The Perfect Combination For Healthy Hair
“Hi Dawn, just stumbled across your website when looking for “oils for acne” for my grandson and wow! I am impressed by your amazing yet simple information. I try to embrace a simple lifestyle too and your pages make me see how easy this is as well as still having style. Incredible that you also let us into your front door!! Love your home space. Thank you!! Will continue to follow your site. Happy days and blessings! ~Chris A Complete Tour of Our Modern Apartment
“I randomly stumbled across your blog for the first time the other day and just wanted to say a big, fat THANK YOU for the article! I’d been using jojoba oil for the past 4 months because I’d read a lot about how ‘good’ it was for oily/acne prone skin. Well, it wasn’t doing anything to improve my skin and I think if anything, it actually made it look and feel more greasy and congested. After reading this I switched to evening primrose oil and 3 days later my skin is already improving! Thank you sooooo much! I didn’t know anything about oleic/linoleic acid before and I would never have figured this out myself. ” ~Symone Oils Specifically For Acne Prone Skin
“Dawn Michelle, you are by far and away the most treasured resource I have found for nontoxic hair and skin care. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us. <3” ~Lisa No More Chemical Hair Care–Part 2–Herbal Hair Cleansers
“Hi there! Thanks so much for this article, I’ve dyed my hair using henna a couple of times before using LUSH henna mixed with hot water, and I found it was extremely grainy and hard to get all of my hair covered! But this method made the henna such a wonderfully creamy consistency! It was almost as easy to put on as chemical supermarket dyes And I can tell the dye released very fast, because I spilled a little (well, a lot, actually :P) on my legs and it left orange blotches (I have very pale skin) after sitting there for about 15-20 minutes!
Amazing! Thank you so much. Take care <3″ ~Tyler Henna For Hair 101
I just wanted to say your website has really changed the way I approach hair and skin health. More specifically I have seen major improvements in the condition of my hair. I had a bad experience with henna around October of last year. It left my hair dry and dull. So I wrote off henna as “not for me.”
I am so glad I gave it another go this February this time with coconut milk as you suggested. The first and second application was ok, but by the third I was hooked!!! Thank you for sharing the knowledge you have with us all. I have been using henna weekly for over a month now. I am going strong on month two and loving the progressive results 🙂
I first was looking for natural products for my hair when I stumbled across your website early 2013. Since then I have embarked on a journey for healthy air with minimal to no harsh chemicals. I was inspired by your use of herbs and other natural products to wash and condition your hair. I started using aloe vera juice and gel and coconut milk, bananas, etc. My hair is soft and more manageable. I visit your website a lot more nowadays just to make sure I don’t miss anything 🙂 I cannot thank you enough for your contribution and sharing your personal experience with us!” ~Apple Weekly Henna Challenge
Thank you so much for this article you have saved my sanity (mwah). My hair is very fine & straight (basically the opposite of yours) I’m having some massive hormone changes post baby & my hair is so greasy (it looked like I’d cleaned a deep fryer with it).
I tried Rhassoul clay this week & have gone from needing to wash it every 12hrs to every 3 days in one wash. Even though hubby thinks I have gone a bit crazy I’m looking forward to experimenting with it & hoping to continue with the results.” ~Emma Rhassoul Clay for Shampoo
