Hi I’m Dawn Michelle, a new mom, professional dancer, environmentalist, and CREATIVE DIRECTOR of the conscious living blog Minimalist Beauty. Minimalist Beauty was born after realizing that my $20,000 in debt (now completely paid off) was mainly from beauty and style consumerism. I knew there was a better way to live an eco friendly, glamorous, and healthy life without the ridiculous price tag.
Minimalist Beauty is where I share my discoveries learning to live consciously. My emphasis has been on paring down my possessions to only what I absolutely love, creating easy to make DIY beauty products, designing stylish minimalist wardrobes, making eco-friendly choices daily, zero waste, and using health as beauty from the inside out. Focusing my former excessive consumerism towards creativity has proved rewarding and extremely liberating.
If this is your first time on Minimalist Beauty this is the perfect place to begin. You will find links to helpful articles by category for your convenience below. Please note that I don’t have an exact schedule of publishing articles with a newborn, but I will post something new on Minimalist Beauty at least once a week. Staying connected by subscribing with bloglovin’ and joining the tribe on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram is definitely the best way to know when something fresh is up!

Maintaining beautiful skin builds confidence. Our skin also reflects what is going on inside our body. When looking at how to care for our skin, the more that we learn the better we can care for it. I believe a gentle 100% natural approach is best.
There are many factors that make our hair extremely unique. These factors include porosity (amount of water retained in hair strands), pattern (straight, wavy, curly, coily), density (thickness of individual hair strands), and sebum production (oily or dry scalp). Over the years I’ve learned that products do not create a healthy hair regimen, but your daily, weekly, and monthly hair care techniques and methods do.
After recently taking a very artistic approach to my personal style, I am seeing even more value in focusing on wardrobe essentials. I love expressing my creativity through fashion, yet finding the balance of eclectic pieces and staples is key. I’ve even enjoyed upcycling vintage finds. I will say that I’ve learned that maintaining a streamlined minimalist wardrobe will never make you feel like I don’t have anything the wear again. You can see capsule wardrobes that I’ve created here!
As a professional dancer, my body is my art. I made a vow to myself to take the best care of my body as possible. Taking care of my body entails eating healthy whole organic foods, and exercising with yoga, cardio, dance classes, and stretching. Also one of the most important things to know about taking care of myself is knowing when to say when and rest. No matter what you do, your health is key to enjoying your life to the fullest. Listening to your body and what it needs and creating healthy boundaries will help to make every day a more beautiful experience.
I love our planet and have made a choice to do whatever I can to preserve it for future generations. I may only be one person, yet if I can inspire another that makes one more. Buying organic foods, shopping thrift and vintage stores, making my own cosmetics, using eco-friendly household cleaners, working towards zero waste, as well as living a minimalist lifestyle all has a major positive impact on the environment.
