My Probiotic Green Smoothie Recipe

IMG_1711.jpg

I LOVE my smoothies.  I make smoothies daily.  Sometimes I can go for weeks making the same one without skipping a joyful beat.  Other times I need to change it up.  I've shared a few of my favorite smoothie recipes throughout the blog.  This probiotic green smoothie has been my latest fail proof recipe of goodness that even my son adores!

What you will need...

  • 1 cup of organic yogurt (coconut milk, full fat, Greek...  your choice)

  • 1 large organic mango

  • 1 organic avocado

  • 2 cups of loosely packed organic spinach

  • 4 organic seeded medjool dates

  • (Optional... add 1-3 cups of additional fruit for extra energy packed calories.  More mango, strawberries, blueberries, or even bananas are all great choices.  Us mamas need our energy!)

I started making my smoothies with yogurt recently instead of with just water to add extra goodness to my son's smoothies.  He loved them so much that I began making them this way unless we are out of yogurt.  Obviously this would be too large of a portion for him alone, so it is definitely shared. We use a Vitamix, so there is no need to add any extra liquid to this recipe for easy blending.  If you don't have a high speed blender modify this recipe to make it work for you.

I always load the Vitamix with yogurt first, spinach second, then all of the rest of the ingredients.  This always seems to be the easiest method so that the spinach blends well. By adding yogurt and an avocado to this smoothie, my son and I are getting extra healthy fats.  I've learned overtime that having a diet higher in fat has been helpful for our family while pregnant/nursing or for a growing child.  Finding the best balance that works for you is key.
