My Beauty Regimen

I prefer to keep things as simple as possible.  I have created the most affective beauty regimen with basic ingredients and natural products that I love and work well for me.  I have combination skin, that is not as oily as it use to be, and thick curly hair with fine strands.

Throughout this blog you will find many DIY recipes to create your own cosmetics, and other simple ingredients that work amazingly well on their own.  Educate yourself on cosmetic ingredients to avoid to make conscious decisions on your own personal beauty.  Feel free to create new products that work best for you by mixing your favorite ingredients and become more of a Minimalist Beauty.  Minimalist Beauty is a lifestyle of DIY and store bought natural organic cosmetics, decluttering your life, and diving into your creativity.

Skin Care

1. Makeup Remover

Jojoba Oil, Grapeseed Oil, or Camellia Oil

I don’t apply oil all over my face and use oil as an eye makeup remover.

2. Cleanse

Raw Honey

I prefer raw honey, although I’ve used regular honey as well.  I add rhassoul clay to remove makeup.  I add a bit of clay to the palm of my hand first, then honey, and mix and apply using a wet Face Complexion Brush by Sephora or with my fingers.

Rhassoul Clay–brightens complexion, decreases pore size, detoxifies skin

Read more about rhassoul clay here.

and/or

Soapwort Root Cleanser

This gentle cleanser is really growing on me, and is another great natural cleansing option.  It is a great natural makeup remover, yet I still use a natural oil to remove eye makeup.  Read more about soapwort root here.

3. Tone

Aloe Vera Juice, Rose Hydrosol, or DIY Soothing Antioxidant Toner

I had stopped using a toner for sometime, but again agree that a toner removes any cleansing product left behind, refreshes the skin, and preps it for your moisturizer.  Aloe vera juice has a natural salicyilic acid, rose hydrosol is soothing and pore tightening, and the DIY Soothing Antioxidant Toner contains antioxidants from green tea and malic acid from the small amount of apple cider vinegar which help create an even skin tone.

4. Moisturize and Nourish

Camellia Oil

Read The Beauty of Camellia Oil.

Castor Oil

I’m really liking castor oil as a night time facial oil now that it’s colder and drier.  I’m also testing some wonderful skin care by 100% Pure with reviews to come.

5. Protect

DeVita Solar Protective Moisturizer SPF 30+ or my DIY Foundation with SPF 30

6. Treat

100% Pure Pineapple Enzyme Facial Peel

100% Pure Coffee Bean Eye Cream

Review to come.

Hair Care

My hair care routine seriously gets simpler every month!  I’m using The Curly Girl Method now and read the story behind it all here.  I will write an update in a month or so.

1. Cleanse

My Homemade Botanical Conditioner

Soapwort Shampoo or Rhassoul Clay as needed.

2. Leave-In

My Homemade Botanical Conditioner

Mix of natural oils:  camellia oil, hemp oil, castor oil, coconut oil (for the ends of my hair nightly or as needed)

Read Ceramide Oil and Lush Fabulous Hair Care Tips and The Beauty of Camellia Oil.

I lightly oil the ends of my hair at night, put in a super high ponytail, then cover in silk or sleep on a satin pillowcase.  I also have added castor oil to my oil mix as a humectant for the winter.  I haven’t used flax seed gel to style for a few weeks.  I haven’t decided how I will use it again yet.

3. Henna

Only Body Art Quality Henna (Nupur 9, Karishma, Jamilla, Dulhan, or Reshma henna), Coconut Milk, and Hemp Oil

Henna treatments with coconut milk and a ceramide oil, usually hemp oil, keep my hair strong and I no longer deal with super frizzy hair.  I will continue to henna but less now.  I’ve used henna monthly for almost two years straight so will probably continue every 2-3 months versus as often.  Read Henna Beautiful Hair, Weekly Henna Challenge, and Ceramide Oils and Lush Fabulous Hair Care Tips.

4. Deep Conditioner

Coconut Milk/Hemp Oil

Read Coconut Milk–My New Deep Conditioner

Greek Yogurt/Apple Cider Vinegar

Earthly Delights Conditioner

This conditioner is a wonderful deep conditioner.  Review to come!
