I’m crazy about smoothies! Having a smoothie for breakfast is the best way for me to start my day, and I also enjoy them after my dance classes or rehearsals. Healthy smoothies are also one of the quickest ways to get nutrients into your body especially if you are adding the Garden of Life Raw Meal.
In the past I added hemp protein to my smoothies, and even raw cacao (yum), yet nothing compares to the complete nutrients in the Garden of Life Raw Meal. What I love about the Raw Meal is that it contains 33 grams of raw protein, 9 grams of raw fiber, live enzymes and probiotics, 26 superfoods, with 20 Vitamin Code vitamins and minerals. It also contains a raw green food blend and fruit blend. I no longer have to buy a separate protein powders, fiber, green food blends, or probiotics, and everything in this mix is raw!
Here are the Supplement Facts for the Garden of Life Raw Meal:
The Raw Meal is advertised as a meal replacement and advises using two scoops in the directions. I make my smoothies with only one scoop and sometimes make another smoothie later on in the day. I do still add a few extra supplements especially when only using one scoop of the Raw Meal.
I made the mistake of using two scoops of the Raw Meal in a smoothie, then eating an almond butter sandwich and was overstuffed. I had that before a ballet class and felt like the food could come up at any time. Thank God it didn’t! The Garden of Life Raw Meal is truly a meal replacement. I wouldn’t plan on eating anything along with it if you choose to use two scoops at one time.
Here’s my smoothie recipe:
12-16 oz of almond or coconut milk*
1 scoop of Garden of Life Raw Meal
2 tablespoons of wheatgrass powder
2 tablespoons of brewers yeast
1 tablespoon of coconut oil
1/2 cup of frozen mango
I add the almond or coconut milk first to the blender, then the powders, oil, and fruit so that the supplement powders don’t get stuck at the bottom. Then I blend, blend, blend. This smoothie is very simple to make and super yummy!
If it’s not sweet enough to your liking, add a bit of Stevia as it won’t spike your blood sugar levels, organic blackstrap molasses, or even more fruit. I like eating two pieces of lightly toasted sprouted bread with Earth Balance Natural Buttery Spread while drinking my smoothie and I’m good to go.
One more thing! On the Garden of Life website you can download a $5 coupon that is good until 3-31-12. Also Whole Foods is offering another $5 coupon that you can print off their website, or in The Whole Deal newsletter that is usually right outside entering Whole Food stores. I’m not usually into using coupons, but these two make a big difference! You can also find Garden of Life Raw Meal at most natural grocery stores.
*Please note to those who are vegan that this product is not 100% vegan because of their non-vegetarian source of vitamin D.
*Also the coconut milk I use in my smoothies comes in the same cartons as almond milk, hemp milk, etc. It isn’t the canned coconut milk I use for my henna treatments.
