One of the easiest ways to declutter your wardrobe is to eliminate all of the clothing that does not fit into your color palette. In essence you want to choose three main colors that you always feel good wearing and two or three neutrals to play with as well.
A wardrobe color palette can be used to consciously enhance your wardrobe so that you always feel good about what you are wearing.
My wardrobe is based around the colors green, teal blue, and plum. The neutrals that I mix with my base colors are brown, black, and taupe. The secret to make a color palette work is not to be too strict with your base colors. I have different shades of green, teal blue, and plum in my wardrobe. The color plum even varies into a beautiful shade of wine for some pieces in my wardrobe. I even add the color coral in the summer.
Having a color palette in mind whenever shopping prevents unflattering purchases or even items that will not be cohesive with what is already in your closet.
Most fashion styling books that I’ve seen always share the staple wardrobe pieces and even how to mix and match but don’t really go into color palettes. One way to find out what colors look best on your complexion is to research color palette charts online. The charts usually categorize colors by seasons. My most flattering colors for my complexion are in the autumn palette, yet I do like teal and coral which are summer colors.
Once you understand what colors you feel and look best in, toss out all frumpy attire, and know your own staples that fit your lifestyle, you will never feel like your wardrobe doesn’t work for you again. You will also be able to better appreciate the wardrobe that you do have and hopefully quit overspending on trendy you-can-blow-on-it-and-it-will-fall-apart clothing.
Long lasting quality pieces that flatter your figure and fit your personal style is what we are going for!
