I’ve boasted the benefits of using henna for years on Minimalist Beauty. If you’re going to color you hair, I believe that using organic henna is the BEST way to go. The damage I’ve experienced using traditional hair color in the past just isn’t worth it.
Unlike traditional hair color full of toxic chemicals, organic henna strengthens your hair, and adds radiant shine while conditioning it.
Another beautiful thing about using organic henna to color your hair is that it looks very natural. Plus the color can be enriched with repeated applications and used as often as you’d like. Please note that you can’t lighten your hair with henna. The properties in the henna plant (Lawsonia inermis) actually bind color to the hair strands versus strip the hair’s cuticle of it’s natural color.
Stripping the hair of it’s natural color is very damaging, and nearly impossible to keep healthy no matter what you do.
Mountain Rose Herbs carries five premixed shades of organic henna-based herbal hair colors in black, brown, chestnut, wine red, and blond. These mixes include various combinations of organic hair-friendly ingredients such as cassia, indigo, amla, ziziphus, eucalyptus, aloe, turmeric, and chamomile. This organic henna is also finely ground so is easy to mix and rinse from your hair.
There is also an organic henna and herb mix (pictured above) which does not contain cassia or indigo. Cassia and indigo are two ingredients that create color variations with henna. Plain henna alone will always provide a natural red dye release.
Recently I shared 5 Tips For Coloring Hair Naturally With Henna on the Mountain Rose Herbs blog plus My Two Favorite Henna Recipes (one with henna + conditioning herbs and the other with henna + indigo). There are detailed instructions on how to use both recipes. If you’re interested definitely check out the article here.
