Ever since I decided to quit creating capsule wardrobes, my craving for color and patterns took over my previous uniform of neutrals. It has been such a huge relief starting a new style journey, and I am loving every moment. I purchased this dress at Goodwill, and I absolutely loved the color and material.
I wore it a few times as is, but it didn’t really feel like me. I decided to take out my fabric shears and get to work. With a few minor modifications, I have a completely “new” dress.
1. My first step was completely removing the thick waistband, and sewing the bodice to the skirt.
2. I decided to give the skirt a completely different shape by rounding out the sides near the hemline.
3. Finally I created a pleat in the center of the front and back hemline.
4. This new shape feels amazing!
Even though actually sewing this dress didn’t take me a long time, I did spend a few days just thinking over the design. I couldn’t be happier with the outcome of this dress. Sometimes redesigning a piece with a few simple changes can make all of the difference. You can check out more of my upcycled pieces, and a few of my own original designs if you like too.
