Creating a capsule wardrobe has been the best thing I could have done for my own personal style and for my own peace of mind. It has forced me to only keep items that I truly love and to create a beautiful collection of clothing that interchanges effortlessly. Finding outwear to compliment my capsule wardrobe was my next step.
I will admit that my fall/winter capsule wardrobe has shifted some since I posted it this past September. I noticed that I never wore two of the fifteen core items meaning that I didn’t really love them, and two other pieces would honestly be better for my spring/summer capsule wardrobe 2014 now that it’s colder. I also added a few warmer pieces to replace the unloved items that I am giving away as part of the 33 Days Declutter Project. I will share these wardrobe updates soon.
With that said, I took time looking over my previous fall/winter outerwear to see what I truly loved and would work with my current wardrobe. I only added one new piece, the classic wool peacoat below, which was a great find! The rest of my outwear wardrobe I have had for years, and I still love them. My fall/winter outwear collection consists of five classic pieces that will keep me warm this season.
I learned that by having a capsule wardrobe I am still drawn to certain pieces more than others. These little acknowledgements help me determine what is really working in my wardrobe and what is not. With my outerwear I’ve chosen five distinctly different pieces that give variety and style without becoming dated. Much of my outwear is black, yet by adding a brightly colored scarf it is easy to brighten up the overall look instantly if I chose.
